Tuesday, October 22, 2013

On October 3, the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy celebrated its third endowed professorship in as many years. NNI Executive Committee member Dr. Aliasger Salem, associate professor and head of the Division of Pharmaceutics and Translational Therapeutics, was nominated for the Lyle and Sharon Bighley Professorship in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Salem’s research group focuses on applying nanotechnology in drug delivery and cancer vaccines, training the body’s immune system to attack tumors. Dr. Salem’s group targets two of the most common cancers — melanoma and prostate cancer. Ideas for such novel drug delivery approaches stem from Dr. Salem’s diverse research experiences.
